COSMOS

The ever-present, smile-inspiring blossom is an annual staple in every cottage garden. Cosmos are simply “cheery”, be it standing tall in the garden (growing 12–48 inches) wafting in a gentle breeze, freshly cut and added to a colorful bouquet... or a single stem in a small vase. This variety comprises a mixed palette of color with shades of pink, purple and white, with dainty yet durable blossoms (2–4 inches in diameter), supported by bright green feathery foliage for display in a garden canvas. Cosmos enjoy a sunny location and need minimal care, while constantly producing blooms from early summer until experiencing a hard frost.

MORNING GLORY
A very popular annual vine which flowers profusely, Morning Glory can be grown in patio containers or in the cottage garden. The 2-inch blooms in assorted purples, blues, scarlet, pinks and white, open daily from dawn to noon all summer long… climbing whatever is nearby (including other plants), reaching heights of 15-20 feet. Full sun is mandatory, along with support for the twining vines and shelter from wind. The heart-shaped leaves and funnel-shaped blooms of Morning Glory add texture and variety to a garden palette. view more photos and details

SCARLET RUNNER

Sort of an “old-fashioned” annual, these fast growing vines add wonderful dimension to a cottage garden, but need full sun and ample water to thrive. The twining vines of Scarlet Runner can reach 10 – 20 feet in a single growing season, constantly producing tiny red flowers (resembling Sweet Pea blooms) throughout the summer and into the fall… attracting hummingbirds to their sweet nectar. These dainty blooms yield elongated seedpods (which are edible) while the large heart-shaped leaves add a delicate color balance to the garden canvas. The beans also flourish in containers, making them quite versatile and a fun planting project for kids, with fast results.
